Highlights 6 issues that face the field of early intervention as it strives to meet parental expectations and achieve greater scientific respect and public acceptance: (a) the need to find acceptable auspices and more acceptable nomenclature that communicates to everyone that educare is the service provided, (b) the need to improve quality without fostering sterility and stifling innovation, (c) the need to establish more effective linkages with other human service fields, (d) the need to establish a broader research agenda, (e) the need for sensitivity to the policy implications of the work, and (f) the need to learn from other countries. The field is a fertile one for the involvement of professional psychologists. |
