The vanilla crop started in the time of the Aztecs who cultivated the vanilla under low plant stands. Over the past 10 years,there has been a search for better ways of giving shade to this crop. The Casa Sombra system seems to be the best way toachieve this goal, been this system able to reduce light in 70%, also Citrus sp., Erythrina sp. and Gliricidia had been used asa tutor. The objective was to determine the tutor influence on the vanillin and chlorophyll contents. It was observed that thebiggest chlorophyll content was produced on plants under the Casa Sombra system followed by tutor Erythrina, whileCitrus and Gliricidia systems had the biggest vanillin contents. |
