Inhoud: Postmortal Tissue Donation as a quality-controlled process in cooperation with the non-profit service organisation DIZG (German Institute for Cell and Tissue Replacement) has been established at the Department of Forensic Medicine in Hamburg nearly two years ago. Every year nearly 3000 deceased with an unexplained cause of death were admitted to the Department, since September 2007 it has an additional function as a morgue of the University Hospital. Between 9-1-2007 and 12-31-2007 1065 bodies were taken to the Department, 297 of them were deceased patients from the hospital. After a first medical screening concerning the estimated time of death (if unknown) and infections (e.g.Hepatitis, HIV), drug abuse or cancer 299 potential tissue donors were identified which also had to be checked for the possibility to take blood samples within a 24 hours post mortem intervall. The coordinator on duty continuing the evaluation process, contacted the next of kin asking for the medical and social anamnesis of the deceased and for the consent for donation. On this level of the process 282 exclusion criteria were diagnosed. We demonstrate the distribution of these criteria. At last 17 tissue donations were performed, 16 of the donors came from the Department of Forensic Medicine, 1 from the University Hospital.
