Process Conditions for the Separation of Carbon from Fly Ash by Froth Flotation

Titel: Process Conditions for the Separation of Carbon from Fly Ash by Froth Flotation
Auteur: Harris, Tanya
Wheelock, Thomas D.
Verschenen in: International journal of coal preparation and utilization
Paginering: Jaargang 28 (2008) nr. 3 pagina's 133-152
Jaar: 2008-07
Inhoud: The results are presented for the third phase of an extended study of process conditions required for the efficient separation of unburned carbon from fly ash by means of froth flotation. In the previous two phases of this study it was shown that a mixture of nonylphenol (NP) and hexadecane (HEX) is a highly effective collector for the carbon when used with MIBC as a frother. During the third phase of the study, many additional flotation tests were conducted with a conventional, bench-scale, mechanically agitated flotation cell to determine the effects of several important process parameters on flotation system performance. These tests were applied to three additional samples of fly ash from two different sources. The system parameters that had a significant effect on flotation included the carbon content of the fly ash, the agitator speed used for preconditioning the pulp and collector, the collector dosage and its NP content, the MIBC dosage, and the number of flotation stages.
