Primary pupils' conceptions of energy: Fact or fiction?

Titel: Primary pupils' conceptions of energy: Fact or fiction?
Auteur: Nicholls, Gill
Verschenen in: Evaluation & research in education
Paginering: Jaargang 6 (1992) nr. 2-3 pagina's 85-93
Jaar: 1992
Inhoud: Much has been written on children's alternative frameworks, prior conceptions, or understandings of scientific concepts. The realisation that these exist have made it clear that teachers and researchers need to take account of such notions when trying to design and develop teaching material. The need for innovative material is essential, if teachers are to be helped to implement the demands of the National Curriculum; where progression differentiation and continuity within the curriculum are necessary. This paper suggests a possible underlying structure to the way primary pupils view energy. The data is explored and interpretations given to the results. The aim of the research was to see how pupils in the primary school conceived energy and energy related topics with the view of developing a teaching package that was to include computer software, and meet with the Attainment targets on energy in the science document of the National Curriculum.
