Most libraries have a display area for exhibits. Unfortunately some exhibit materials are easily damaged by exposure to light. Deterioration caused by light exposure is cumulative and can easily go unnoticed. In order to protect collections on display it is helpful to gain an understanding of light exposure patterns in the exhibit area over time. Over a period of five months in the spring of 2002, the Special Collections department at the University of Colorado at Boulder used blue wool cards to track light exposure patterns in the reading room prior to mounting an exhibit of medieval manuscripts. |
