Inhoud: The use of a contingent observation procedure to effect reductions in disruptive behavior and increases in appropriate social behaviors in a 5-year-old kindergarten student was investigated. The procedure can be divided into the following four components: behavioral instruction, modified time-out, modeling, contingent social reinforcement. Large reductions in intrusive-aggressive and non-compliant behavior were observed after implementation of the procedure. Anecdotal reports from the subject's teacher suggested improved social behaviors over the course of the experiment. Although methodological limitations hampered clear interpretations of the data, type of modeling instruction (general vs. specific individual) did not seem to affect results. Results of the study supported the effectiveness of the contingent observation procedure and suggested that it is applicable to a wider range of children than was previously established.
