Inhoud: In this article we develop the ideal model knitted loop (Jeddi et al., 12, 39-44, 1999, Semnani et al., J. Text. Inst., 94, 204-213, 2003) for the fully relaxed 1 × 1 rib structure. This model is based on the classic curve of Strophoid equation as the loop shape of face and back loops and improved by adopting an elastica configuration. Then, a quadratic equation is taken as the linking portion between face and back loops. The analysis is introduced for two- and three-dimensional models. A series of three nondimensional parameters or uc, uw,and us values is introduced to specify the dimensional properties of this structure. The average numerical values of these parameters are calculated and compared with the theoretical and experimental values that were obtained by previous workers. From these ideal models, it has recently been speculated (Mohammadi and Jeddi, unpublished data, 2005) that using ultrasonic waves could be a much more effective way of supplying mechanical energy, as a fully relaxation treatment. By using this technique, it is observed that the u values achieved in this method are higher than that reported experimentally by previous workers, and reached closer to the theoretical values that were obtained from the ideal loop models of this work. Therefore, we have suggested again that the ultrasonic relaxation method has more effectiveness on the 1 × 1 rib fabric's geometry.
