Coastal waters are affected not only by chemical pollution but also by thermal pollution. Hence, the use of thermal infrared-sensing techniques and the evaluation of its data become an important tool for maintaining the coastal environment. Quantitative evaluation of thermal data necessitates the removal of instrumental and atmospheric errors that mask the desired information. This paper discusses different approaches for error correction. The obtained, absolute accuracy of ± 0.2°C promises the effective use of those tools in preparing thematic maps, by using digital image-processing- and screening techniques. |
