Inhoud: The mathematical relationship between the two-port characteristic functions of any solvable non-uniform transmission line and those of the dual line is established. The conditions of reciprocity and symmetry of the non-uniform line used in different configurations of two-port network are expressed in terms of characteristic functions. The two-port wave parameters, which are substituted for voltage-current matrix parameters in the microwave region, are obtained in terms of characteristic functions. The concept of ' A-graph of chain matrix ' recently introduced by Swamy and Ramachandran (1968) is extended to obtain composite characteristic functions for any number of two-port networks interconnected in tandem so as to make available all the matrix parameters governing the overall performance of the interconnected structure. In addition, expressions for composite characteristic functions for several typos of interconnected network are derived in terms of the characteristic functions of the component networks
