The Test's the Thing: viewpoints of students with special educational needs

Titel: The Test's the Thing: viewpoints of students with special educational needs
Auteur: Wade, Barrie
Moore, Maggie
Verschenen in: Educational studies
Paginering: Jaargang 19 (1993) nr. 2 pagina's 181-191
Jaar: 1993
Inhoud: This paper presents views on testing by a cross-cultural sample of primary and secondary students with special educational needs. While some of the responses indicated that tests were useful for feedback and motivation, half of the sample disliked having tests and found them boring. These negative views were intensified by the marks that the students received and the physical and emotional effects during the testing. As the students viewed tests and assessment as necessary components of school life, the paper concludes that children with special educational needs are entitled to help to overcome their anxieties and that positive classroom practice can help to effect this.
