This study investigated the learning styles and personality types of community college and private university undergraduate students. Preferred learning experiences and differences between community college and university students were identified, along with differences within each group, based on selected demographic and institutional characteristics. Three broad types of learners were identified: (1) cooperative, (2) independent, and (3) competitive. Additionally, significant correlations were identified between an “experimenting” personality type and learning style preferences. Faculty roles as gourmet chef, reference librarian, and circus ringmaster were discussed to meet the needs of various types of learners. |
