Community colleges are increasingly having to pursue alternative sources of funding as more traditional sources of revenue dwindle or disappear. One of the prime vehicles used to augment such support is the foundation. Despite the fact that considerable information has been generated about foundations, little has been written about the organization and structure of community college foundations. While there has been some minimal material produced on types or sources of potential funding, types of fund-raising activities, fund-raising details, accounting for funds, and marketing the foundation, there has been little data generated on foundation organization, structure, and composition of the foundation policy-making entity or board. This paper is an analysis of these last variables as they apply to foundation boards of two-year public colleges in the State of North Carolina. |
