A aonparimBtric east based an Hoeffding' s (1948) U-statistic is presented for tasting exponentiality against monotone faiiura rats. The test is shown to be unbiased and consistent with asyss-totically normal test statistic. Exaples are given where the test is shown Co perform well against other tests for the monot-onicitty of failure rate functions, and against Hollander and Proschan's (1972) cast for new better than used. |
