Contents: Lui Fengju, Sha Kaixun, Liu Jianzhong and Zhou Guangqiang assess the background and current status of China's higher education system. Higher education is a decisive factor in China's economic development and recent economic restructuring is a motivating force for the reform of China's higher educational system. Identifying problems which are currently inhibiting the higher education system to create a more dynamic construction industry, the authors identify key factors in course structure and specialization, management, recruitment and employment practices. The proposed solution is practical reform which creates a larger and more significant role for international educational models, experience and exchange.
