Experiments were performed, using monopolar electrical stimulation of the diencephalon of the fowl (Gallus domesticus L.), to investigate the tongue, mandible and pharyngeal movements elicited. Responses resembling those associated with aversion to food were obtained when the anterior diencephalon was stimulated in parts of the lateral forebrain bundle. A similar response was elicited when sites found in the thalamus of the posterior diencephalon were stimulated. The sites involved were in the stratum cellulare externum, nucleus subrotundus, nucleus ovoidalis and the adjacent region. |
