Comparison of weight and quality losses in eggs stored on keyes trays with or without polythene wrapping

Title: Comparison of weight and quality losses in eggs stored on keyes trays with or without polythene wrapping
Author: Montgomery, R. H.

Year: 1973-03
Contents: An improvement in the maintenance of egg quality was obtained when eggs were sealed in polythene during storage. Egg weight loss and internal quality deterioration (measured by Haugh unit reduction) were measured twice during storage at different temperatures in order to compare storage on ordinary Keyes trays packed in fibre-board cases, simple sealing in polythene bags of the Keyes trays before storage in the cases, and vacuum packing and sealing in polythene bags prior to storage in the same fibre-board cases. Over both time periods and temperatures of storage the two methods of sealing the eggs resulted in very highly significant improvements in the maintenance of quality compared with the unsealed storage method, but were little different from each other.
