Auteur: Winefield, Helen R.
Verschenen in: Australian psychologist
Paginering: Jaargang 23 (1988) nr. 1 pagina's 13-23
Jaar: 1988-03-01
Inhoud: The present study aimed to discover what kinds of clinical experiences psychologists have had in the area of child sexual abuse (CSA), and what they perceive to be their needs in the detection and management of cases. A random sample of registered South Australian psychologists was surveyed using a postal questionnaire, and 89% responded. Of these, 47% had seen no cases involving current CSA. Other information concerns sources of respondents' information about CSA, perceived needs for more information, assessed adequacy of current treatment services, attitudes to the legal obligation to report suspected cases, and the main sources of hesitation to report. Opinions were related to number of cases seen, in several instances. Recommendations are made about the need for liaison between psychologists and welfare authorities, with particular regard to the need for systematic data about the) consequences of professional interventions.
