An extractive-spectrophotometric study based on the reaction of ephedrine with sodium 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulphonate (NQS) is described. The nature of the extractant is the most important variable; NQS 0.5%, phosphate buffer pH=7.5, heating 30 min at 70 °C and isoamyl alcohol as extractant were the optimal conditions. The method is applied to the determination of ephedrine in pharmaceutical samples. |
