Some Insights Into Adoption: Unintended Consequences of Publicity

Paginering: Jaargang 30 (1977) nr. 1 pagina's 25-28
Jaar: 1977-03
Inhoud: Much of the current debate on adoption in Australia is based on the recent experiences of people who have been variously involved in the process—social workers, adoptive parents, biological parents. Valuable as the examination of this experience is, it does not give an in-depth picture of adoption practice and experience over time. The paucity of research, or even published material, is a source of serious concern, especially to those trying to grapple with the problem of analysing the effectiveness of adoption practice. It is interesting therefore to examine the comments of people who have participated in adoptions over many years, to see what they tell us. The methodological stumbling block one encounters in this kind of analysis is lack of control over the sample of participants. An even greater problem occurs when that sample is unsolicited.
