The microprocessor is recognized as being a very significant technological development. Closely associated and almost as important has been the development of support electronic devices; however, this latter development has gone somewhat unnoticed by people outside the micro-electronics world. These support devices promise new and inexpensive solutions to many problems. This paper describes some of the new devices that can be used in the input and output data operations of a microprocessor system. One characteristic of these devices is that each has several operating options. A particular option is specified with a computer program; consequently, some system designs can be changed simply by changing a program. |
