International collaborations on behalf of children have greatly expanded over the past decade. In the area of early childhood teacher education, international meetings have been held to develop integrated services for early education (UNESCO, 1990), cooperative proposals for improving practice in countries with specific problems have emerged and comparative studies of early childhood programs have been conducted (Barbour & Pease, 1983; Olmstead & Weikart, 1989, 1994; William & McBride, 1989). Further, global studies have been integrated into early childhood teacher education course work at many universities (Overly, 1985). Finally, in an effort to develop what Kagan (1995) refers to as an urgent need for early educators with more global viewpoints, some programs have found a great deal of success in providing preservice teachers with opportunities for international professional visits, more global-focused coursework, and international exchange programs. This is a description of one such program.
