This paper presents the development of a technique to estimate the octane rating or grade of fresh and degraded gasolines. The technique uses readily available gas chromatography data and can be applied to gasolines that have lost as much as 75% by evaporation. The technique provides a tool to better characterize gasolines released to the environment and narrow the likely source of the release. A field confirmation study is included. |
