Comparing the surface environment of Earth with that of other worlds in our Solar System can help teach students several key concepts in physical geography, particularly: 1) the same natural laws and processes can produce widely different phenomena depending on planetary boundary conditions, 2) many phenomena of planet Earth are unique in the Solar System, and 3) our surface environment is not immutable. This article outlines specific comparisons that could be included in lectures about Earth's tectonism, volcanism, gradation, wind, temperature, and life. |
