The essay is introduced with an address to its mode of argument, the defamiliarisation of the still not entirely resolved term—'sustainability'. It then proceeds through four sections. Section I, visits architecture and design outside their orthodox characterisations. In section 2, connections are made between architecture (as design), anthropocentrism and the notion of 'extended responsibility'. What results from this formation is then employed in section 3 to reconfigure architectural education. The last section confronts the question of getting from where 'we are' to where 'we' want to be. A brief conclusion then follows. |
