Two single subject studies were conducted with hearing impaired subjects in a clinic situation at a midwestern university. Results demonstrated the usefulness of the design in allowing teachers empirical support for using particular software in instructing special needs students. Specifically, certain types of software (e.g., drill and practice) were more useful than others (e.g., gaming) in learning to spell and to define new words. The youngest subject, a 6 year-old boy, had difficulty with both types of computer programs. Consequently, one design, the Spelling Tasks, was replicated on a hearing six year-old girl. |
