Sex differences exist in many aspects of death related materials. This paper reviews the sexdifferences in longevity, suicide rates, and widowhood. Proceeding from this statistical base, the paper utilizes three theoretical frameworks for explaining the sex differential. The biogenetic, environmental, and psychosocial perspectives are discussed as they partially illuminate the sex differential. Finally, an attempt is made to utilize major points in each of these theories in order to suggest a more integrative approach to explaining the sex differential in death related concerns. |
