An optimum determination of strata boundaries is investigated when the stratification variable is positively skewed and represented by a simple Pareto type function. Closed form or explicit solutions are obtained. Graphicall aid is provided to obtain immediate optimum boundaries. The method is extended to include the case when stratification and estimation variables are different but related by a simple regression model. A considerable reduction of variance is found on comparing the method with the cum. √f and the cum. [image omitted] rules. |
