Inhoud: The study reported in this paper examined student messages, gathered through post-exit interviews, to compare how they talk about membership in the organizational culture of Southern Nazarene University (SNU) with the institution's espoused values and underlying assumptions as presented in official institutional documents. This analysis considers the cultural notion of masculinity and femininity, identifies the values of SNU, and focuses on how the students discuss gender role expectations in marriage, the church, and the workplace. Based on the emergent themes revealed through the students' messages, it appears they hold incompatible perspectives among the three contexts and as compared with the organizational message of SNU. Finally, further research is recommended to consider the perspective of members of other Christian organizations comparing the institutional message with the organizational member's talk about membership.
