An overview regarding the essential conditions for a planetary atmospheric electric circuit is first emphasized. A comparative approach is then done to re-examine the role of electrification in theatmospheres of Earth and Mars with the possibility of global electric circuit. A conceptual diagram of the terrestrial global circuit is given from the existing knowledge of earth’s electrical system. When the reported results are critically reviewed Mars is also expected to have substantial atmospheric electrification. Morphology of Martian lightning and probable branching of streamers are considered atlength in the presence of lightning and active weather systems. |
