The critical revision of field collected samples and material preserved in herbaria IRBR, MO, MY, PORT, US and VEN,allowed to identify 8 species of the genus Melochia L. in the Sucre state, which are located predominantly in the warmzones. Melochia caracasana Jacq., Melochia nodiflora Sw, Melochia parvifolia Kunth, Melochia pyramidata L. andMelochia tomentosa L. turned out to be the species of ampler distribution in the Sucre state. Melochia melissifolia Benth. isregistered as a new contribution to the knowledge of the flora of the state. Key and descriptions, accompanied withillustrations of each species
