Venezuela is the third petroleum producer country of OPEC with 2,717,000 b/day, this huge production lead to contamination risks because of oil spills. Phytoremediation use plants to eliminate the contamination of environment. The objective of this work was evaluate the effect of different oil concentrations (0, 3 and 6 %) and three periods of sowing after oil spill occurrence on seed germination of corn cv. Himeca 95. The study was carried out at greenhouse of Postgraduate School of the Universidad de Oriente in Maturin, Monagas state. Two kg of soil were weighted for each pot and 60 and 120 g of oil for a contamination level of 3 and 6 %, respectively. A treatment without oil contamination was used as a control. Seed sowing of corn cv. Himeca 95 was carried out at 0, 7 and 14 days after contamination of soil with different levels ofoil. A 3 x 3 factorial experiment in a randomized complete block design was used with three replications. It was founded that the best results were for the seeds sowed after 1 or 2 weeks of oil contamination, suggesting that in soils affected by oil spills the sowing should be made after a period of time instead of immediately after oil contamination. |
