The main objective of this work is to determine the species, main structural characteristics of the mangrove forest and thevalue and importance for the community of Ejido Cerro Tumilco, Veracruz, Mexico. We used 20 quadrats of 50 x 2 mduring November and December of 2004. We determined the presence of the following species: Rhizophora mangle,Avicennia germinans and Laguncularia racemosa. A. germinans was the tallest species with an average height of 12.07 mand diameter of trunk with 28.52 cm. The most valuable species was A. germinans with 116.9. The main uses of thisecosystem are firewood (24 %), fences for properties (23 %) and raw material for fishing tools (23 %). |
