Title: Response of popcorn (Zea mays L.) to different stands and levels of fertilization under agroecological conditions of savanna
Author: Víctor Alejandro OTAHOLA GÓMEZ
Alexandra SILVA BLANCO
Appeared in: Revista científica UDO agrícola
Paging: Volume 2 (2002) nr. 1 pages 8-13
Year: 2002
Contents: In order to determine the agronomic performance of the porcorn variety Santa Cruz under different fertilization levels andsowing distances, an experiment was carried out at Experimental Station of Savanna of the Escuela de IngenieríaAgronómica of the Universidad de Oriente, in Jusepín, Municipio Maturín of Monagas state. A 3 x 3 x 2 factorialexperiment in randomized complete block design was used with three replications. The three factors were: three fertilizationdose (300, 500 and 700 Kg 12-24-12/ha); three between row distance (0.60; 0.70 and 0.80 m) and two in-row distances(0.15 and 0.20 m) for a total of 18 treatments. The plots were conformed by four rows of 10 meters long, adjustments werecarried out to harvest the same areas. The differences among means were determined using Duncan’s multiple range test (α= 0.05). Lodging was bigger when using 0.15 m in-row distance (40 %) and betwee row distances of 0.60 and 0.70 m (35%). 100-seed weight was the only trait affected by the interaction among the three factors, the biggest values were obtainedfor the combination of 500 Kg/ha of fertilizer, between row distance of 0.60 and in-row distance of 0.15 m (13.61 g). Thebiggest grian yield was obtained using between row distance of 0.60 and 0.70 m (1,233 and 1,020 Kg/ha respectively).
