An analysis of potato production (Solanum tuberosum L.) at Monagas State was realized during february–june, year 2000.The diagnosis was carried out through an agro-economical system of production. The factors that affected the production ofthis crop in the state during the period 1994-1998 were detected. The results showed Caripe as the main producer of potato,with 57.79 % of the whole land planted. The production (cycle february-june) of the year 2000 was of 258,072 kg, with anaverage of 8065 kg/ha, this yield was inferior than the Monagas yield for 1999 (15,000 kg/ha) also inferior than countryyield on the same year (17,949 kg/ha). The analysis of cost production and incomes, determinated the potato crop was notbeneficial, leading to a lack of motivation for the grower, keeping cultivating potato. The no financing through the years1994-1998 as well as the increase in cost production and the difficulty to obtain seeds were the main factors that affectedthe regularity in the production of potato in the entity.
