Assim, objetivou-se, com este trabalho, avaliar o percentual de embebição e germinação de sementes de </span></span><em><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;">C. abyssinica</span></span></em><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;">. O experimento foi realizado no Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia Goiano, Campus Morrinhos, GO (17°48’27,59”S, 49°12’23,87”W e altitude de 770 m). Foram realizadas avaliações sobre o percentual de embebição e germinação de sementes de </span></span><em><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;">C. abyssinica</span></span></em><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;">, cultivar MS Brilhante, com e sem pericarpo. Para se verificar o percentual de embebição, empregou-se delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 5x2, com cinco períodos de pesagem das sementes (2, 4, 6, 8 e 10 horas de embebição) e dois tipos de sementes (com pericarpo e sem pericarpo), com quatro repetições. Para a determinação do percentual de germinação, foram selecionados dois lotes de 50 sementes, com e sem pericarpo. As sementes foram acondicionadas entre folhas de papel toalha e receberam, em média, 0,02 L de água. Concluiu-se que, apesar de o pericarpo das sementes de </span></span><em><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;">C. abyssinica</span></span></em><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;"> ser permeável à água, a sua retirada duplica o percentual de germinação, em relação às sementes com pericarpo.</span></span></p><p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 120%;" align="justify"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;">PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Biocombustíveis; óleos vegetais; pericarpo.</span></span></p> <p> </p><p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 120%;" align="justify"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US">The pericarp present in some seeds can cause high lack of germination uniformity or even no germination. The experiment took place in the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Goiás State, Morrinhos Campus, Brazil (17°48’27,59”S, 49°12’23,87”W, altitude 770 m). Imbibition and germination percentage of </span></span></span><em><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US">C. abyssinica</span></span></span></em><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US">,</span></span></span><em><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US"> </span></span></span></em><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US">MS Brilhante cultivar, with and without pericarp, were evaluated. To verify the imbibition percentage, a completely randomized experimental design in factorial scheme of 5x2 was used, with five seed weighing periods (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 hours of soaking) and two types of seeds (with or without pericarp), with four replications. To determine germination percentage, two lots of seeds, with and without pericarp, with 50 seeds each, were selected. Seeds were packed in paper towel sheets and received an average of 0,02 L of water. It was concluded that, although the pericarp of </span></span></span><em><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US">C. abyssinica </span></span></span></em><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US">seeds is permeable to water, its withdrawal doubles the germination percentage, if compared to seeds with pericarp.</span></span></span> </p><p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 120%;" lang="en-US"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;">KEY-WORDS: Biofuel; vegetal oil; pericarp.</span></span></p>
