Rural conditions are regarded as a synonym for a disadvantageous situation, not only in the everyday language, but also in social sciences. Due to the dividing function of borders, most borderland regions are in a backward situation. Local governments and their institutions have been making efforts to solve this problem in the past two decades. The present paper describes this phenomenon along the Hungarian and Slovak border. |
