A discussion is raised on positive and negative relationships among urban sustainability, tenure security for poor people informal settlements and some effects of globalisation on activities localization and a new urban geography – with recommendations for policy and planning. The paper reviews some questions about legality and legitimacy of tenure and socio-economic and spatial changements of the last decade in the primate world cities, examining their eventual impact on development and planning, according to or criticizing some contributions from the most recent non-academic and non-periodical literature, and the last UNCHS book on the world urban condition at the staring of the third millennium. |
