Inhoud: The studies about success in career development and work life has pointed out that having a high IQ is not the only factor, communication awareness skills such as emotional awareness of himself and others, expressing emotions and controlling them, establishing empathy are among the other important issues. Emotional intelligence which is defined as an array of noncognitive capabilities, competencies, and skills that influence one’s ability to succeed in coping with environmental demands and pressures and which can be developed when compared with IQ has also taken the attention of corporate businesses in order to increase their performance in a competitive environment and has generated a great deal of interest and a popular topic. Academic promotions at universities depend on several factors, such as academic background, number of studies published, teaching skills and interpersonal relations. The aim of this study is to determine whether a significant relationship exist between emotional intelligence sub constructs (such as emotional awareness of others, life quality, work pressures, personal power and optimum performance) and faculty members academic promotions. The sample is provided from academicians in Izmir, Turkey.
