Contents: In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between iron deficiency anemia and gestational status (gravida, parity, abortus and living child) in women.Data of female patients who referring to Family Practice Department of Dicle University Medical Faculty in two months period (September, October 2007) was surveyed retrospectively. Hemoglobin, hematocryte, iron, binding capacity of iron in serum, age, gravidity, parity and abortion of patients were recorded. Whose transferring saturation index below 20 percent and hematocryte below 35 percent were considered as anemia.Of 65 patients taken part into the study, 23.1% were anemic and 76.9% were normal. Anemia was detected 26.7% of the patients whose gravidities were ≤3, while among patients, having gravidities >3, anemic patients were 73.3%. These ratios were 68% and 32% respectively, between no anemic patients (p=0.037).In this study, iron deficiency anemia has been detected more frequently by increasing gravidity and parity among women. Therefore in order to prevent anemia in women, effective family planning methods have to be used; ladies must be informed and heedful about iron deficiency anemia and iron deficiency monitoring as well as iron supplement therapy must be performed not only during pregnancy.
