Paging: Volume 7 (2008) nr. 6 pages 332-344
Year: 2008
Contents: Many cultures have used plants to treat medical affections and a percentage of modern medicines are obtained from plants. Today, several herbals have been screened for anticancer activity and many patients with cancer take plant extracts in addition to chemotherapy. This review offers an overview of the knowledge about the use of herbals and derivatives as a viable anticancer alternative therapy and their interactions (particularly, modulation of P-450 system and P-glycoprotein) with conventional anti-cancer drugs. It is suggested that health care professionals and patients should be aware of the potential for adverse interactions of this products with the anti-cancer drugs.
