Discovery of novel compounds with pharmaceutical application in algae suggested that Oscillatoria limnetica and Hydrodictyon reticulatum species can be candidates for the bioprocess of target compounds. Antispasmodic effect of hexane, chloroform and methanol extracts from Oscillatoria limnetica and Hydrodictyon reticulatum were studied in vitro on guinea pig ileum against three spasmogens, acetylcholine, histamine, and barium chloride. In all cases hexane extract produced a significant antispasmodic effect on contractions of rat ileum induced by acetylcholine, histamine and barium chloride. IC50 for each was determined. Results show that hexane extract from O. limnetica and H. reticulatum possesses both anticholinergic and antihistaminic properties. |
