The catalytic activity of diphenylzinc as initiator in the ring opening polymerization of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and propylene sulfide (PS) was analyzed. Diphenylzinc exhibited high activity as initiator in the polymerization of both monomers. The yields and the molecular weights of the obtained polymers depend strongly of the structure of the monomer. The spectroscopic analysis of PMAG show that the substituent group in the monomer influenced strongly the reaction mechanism, suggesting it reaction could be happening through a anionic polymerization mechanism through of the double bond C=C of the substituent group and not by means of the polymerization by opening of the oxiranic ring of the MAG. Ring-opening Polymerization of PS happen and structural analysis by means of 13C-NMR indicate that this polymerization is few selective respect to the opening type (α or β). |
