Contents: The kinetics of urea hydrolysis in the presence of urease from sword beans was studiedin a batch reactor in unbuffered aqueous media at high substrate conversions. The kineticanalysis was based on a conductometric method, at constant temperature. The variation of pH inthe same experimental conditions was also recorded. The reaction rates were calculated bynumerical derivation of the integral kinetic curves obtained from a conductance-concentrationcalibration curve. The kinetic analysis was based on both initial rate and extended progress curvemethods. The selfbuffering of the system is a consequence of products accumulation which hasalso an inhibitory effect
