Contents: A series of complexes of Ni(II) with 2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole-5-thiol (HTDA) havebeen synthesised and characterised. The bonding and stereochemistry of the complexes havebeen characterised by IR and electronic studies, magnetic susceptibility at room temperature andconductivity measurements. The Ni(II) complexes exhibit octahedral or trigonal bipyramidalstereochemistry. Thiadiazole in monoanionic form is coordinated as chelate through cyclicnitogen (N4) and exocyclic sulfur of the tioamide moiety while in neutral form acts as unidentatethrough N4. The effective magnetic moments at room temperature agree with proposedstereochemistry. Data concerning thermal behaviour of complex [Ni(TDA)Cl(H2O)3]ยท2H2O arepresented.
