Urologic complications after kidney transplantation such as urine fistula or ureteral obstruction are reported with a frequency between 6 and 14 percent in major contemporary series with more than 1000 patients. According to the literature the complication rate of the ureterovesical anastomosis can be reduced by the Lich/Gregoir extravesical ureterocystoneostomy technique and routine ureteric stenting. Postoperative lymphoceles occur with a frequency up to 36 percent. Treatment of choice for symptomatic lymphoceles is the marsupialization by a laparoscopic approach if possible. The incidence of postoperative erectile dysfunction in male potent recipients can be reduced by an end-to-side revascularisation to the common or external iliac artery as compared to the anastomosis with the internal iliac artery. |
