The Public Broadcasting System (PBS) sponsors this interactive site, which is a resource containing information on Alzheimer's Disease for patients, families, and caregivers. The Web site began as a companion to a January 2004 documentary called “The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer's,” which was itself based on David Shenk's best-selling book, The Forgetting: Alzheimer's-Portrait of an Epidemic. Because this disease will affect approximately 50% of all seniors over 85 years old, and there are currently five million Alzheimer's patients in the United States, the demand for tools such as support groups and alternative options for care has increased significantly. This site provides abundant information for those interested in data concerning Alzheimer's Disease. |
