Treadwell Library, the health sciences library for Massachusetts General Hospital, was the site of the Consumer Health Reference Center (CHRC), a service funded by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. CHRC, a librarian-to-librarian service, was available to staff at all types of libraries in Massachusetts for four years, until state budget cuts mandated its suspension. CHRC's mode of daily operation, newsletter, Web site, print and electronic collections, and continuing education workshops are described. Sample questions and a statistical overview are provided.
