Title: Lesbian Couples
Author: Connolly, Colleen M.
Appeared in: Journal of couple and relationship therapy
Paging: Volume 3 (2004) nr. 1 pages 13-26
Year: 2004-01-21
Contents: This article focuses on the qualitative descriptions of love by 10 lesbian couples, together for 10 to 24 years. The researcher approached the phenomenological and ethnographic study from a feminist perspective, and attended to contextual meaning, culture, and language. Four key themes of love emerged from this qualitative research project: foundation, expression, ritualization, and revitalization. This article provides examples of the couples' foundational connection, constancy in expression of love, innovative use of ritual that served to enhance the relational affiliation, and methods of avoiding relationship stagnation through revitalization of love. The information could prove useful to clinicians and educators in helping all couples who seek success and satisfaction in a relationship.
