In many ways, the consumer health reference interview is more complex than the traditional reference interview with a health care professional. While several generic reference techniques can be employed in consumer health-related interviews, they must be tailored to account for the differences between the two user groups. All library staff need to be trained in serving the walk-in public, as well as in responding to e-mail and telephone inquires. Prepared dialogue scripts can be used during the reference interview process. |
